Genres are one of the best ways to gain access to an improv scene and feel grounded in a created world. Starting a scene in a genre can give you and your partner automatic character, common ground, and momentum. We often call for genre scenes explicitly in challenges or scene introductions, but genres can be helpful in any game or scene you play.
In this class we will focus on genres, both ones we know well and ones we want to explore, with gentle direct feedback. We will look at games that involve genres - (for example, Genre Roller Coaster and Genre Rashomon) and work with genre-fying existing games to see how they play.
The class will be tailored for the group, so please feel free to come with ideas of genres you'd like to try, and games you'd like to play. Otherwise we'll just have to make it up!
